Money to invest, but need advice

Complete new boy in this, so step by step advice required.

We have been given 10k as a present. Whats the best thing to do with it at the moment?

I do not have any cash isa's and my wife has one with only a little in at a very poor interest rate. (Barclays)

Whats the best thing to do as the 10k cheque needs to be cashed soon.

You could open an ISA before the end of the tax year with £3600 and then open another or add £3600 to it on the 7th?

Thats 7200 taken care of then. i take it then that the remaining 2800 can go into the wifes?

Great Ta. Shes had this for a number of years and uses it as a savings account for christmas.

I just have to find the best one on the market now......
