Door at top of stairs in stud wall

Hi,
We are hoping to buy a house soon and the 5th bedroom is classed as a study as the layout of the doors in it means that it would be impractable to fit a standard single bed in.
Its 7'5"x6'4" but to make it slightly more complicated it also has an outside door in as well. (not bothered about that really.)
But the internal door is in the middle of the short wall (opposite window) and being only 6'4" it is not possible to get a bed in without blocking it.
So plan is to move the door to one side of the wall, and my favoured side is the left as it is at the same side as the external door so will leave the sole long wall free to put a bed in.
This door though would be at the top of the stairs and I am not sure why but I get the feeling that this is frowned upon for H&S reasons.
Am I being bonkers or is there anything like that in place?
Sorry for the explanation I know its a bit rubbish and will be hard to visualise. Thanks
