Scottish Gas - Small Victory

I moved into a house not knowing the previous occupant was on the wrong tarrif, an economy one when the house didnt even have storage heaters. He was therefore paying a higher rate for elec during the day.

Scottish Gas then didnt send me a statement for 10 months after I moved in and phoned up to register my details.

When the first letter did eventually come over 10 months later I then discovered it was the wrong tarrif and thus I was £400 in debit.

I argued with their manager for 40 minutes and he flat out refused to budge on the measley £75 compensation he repeatedly stated he was not even obliged to offer.

In the end I told him to stick the £75 and that Id pay the £400 off in full and leave their company. I called him a fool for treating a 20-something this way as he could have had me for life.

Then he miraculously offered me £225....

A small victory I say as I recon had we been on the right tarrif thats about the ball park we had over paying by....

Why your tariff simply wasn't amended to a single rate tariff I have no idea

The guy was a nutter... believe it or not, in our town with a population of 60K the guy whom I actually bought the house from.... crashed into my car 2 years prior and tried to flee the scene of the crime!!

When we purchased the house and realised it was him we were worried he would remember us and be awkward.

Perhaps he changed the tarrif when he left as an act of vengance hah!

Bit confused, isn't it your responsibility to check the tarrif you were on when you moved in?
