The Microsoft wireless adaptor is £45 on Amazon. If you're not so sure what you're doing, it's probably easiest just to buy that.

I'd second this - I'm reasonably techie-savvy but many attempts to share via wireless laptop and other bits and pieces left me cursing microsoft for making the wireless connection so d@mn restrictive...why on earth couldn't they make it so it accepted ANY wireless dongle

....oh, yeah, 'coz it would mean they couldn't flog large numbers of overpriced adapters to people.....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Well, it does seem to be coming down in price, which is good news.

The more people who can access the internet on their 360s, the more people Microsoft can flog XBox Live memberships to, which I imagine is the motivation behind dropping the price.

And of course, it doesn't look good that their competition has wifi out of the box.
• I managed to get my sons from Littlewoods Direct last month.

They did have £30 off a £60 order for new customers. Because it was £59.99 on the site I bought something else for just over a pound. After postage the adapter worked out at just over £37.

Sorry if I sound dense but would this device work instaed of buying a wireless adapter(for the xbox live thing)

I have tried all methods mentioned except for official wireless adapter and dedicated gaming adapter. All have worked faultlessly and have been easy to set up (for me, anyway  ).

I use homeplug to connect my daughter's XBOX360 to the home network. The wireless adaptor may run quite slowly depending on distance and won't have the same throughput as homeplug. This won't be a problem if you are just downloading stuff off the Internet, but if you are streaming video off a PC or Mac using the mediacenter functionality then faster is better.

You can pick up a pair of Solwise 85Mbps adaptors for less than £50 on eBay. I have used this seller and have been very pleased.
• Check ebay for a cheap wireless adaptor thats where I got mine!

You can connect through your lap top or pc using a cable, its not always the fasted connection though but you will not have to buy the xbox wireless adapter
