Old Wires

Hi
Basically my house is full of old wires that I have no idea if they are live or safe to just cut out and throw away.
How can I tell if they are of any use before I cut them or is it best to get in a pro?

You don't say where thes wires are.
Are they affecting anything?
I assume thet they are in the loft. What size are they 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5mm or are they red/black/green wires as per original old wiring.
In any case, if you don't know what they are then leave well alone or call in a 'sparks'"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
They are everywhere in the house Black ones in loft, old telephone cables all over the place etc.0

Well telephone wires only carry 20volts so provided you have traced the supply that you are using then it should be OK to pull them out.
If the wires in the loft have loose ends then it should be OK to remove them but really you should trace where (If anywhere) they are connected to."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Hi,
In general be really careful of wires, electricity can kill.
Trace wires back to where they come from is a good start.
If you are 100% certain remove it but do be really careful.
