Parking ticket in Clapham but wrong street

Just visiting family in London and we forgot to put a visiting permit on the car (had them in the house). Got a ticket but just noticed that it has the wrong street on it. The warden made a mistake, it's a street in another area of Clapham. Just wondering if I could appeal it or avoid paying it?

Yes, just write and say you were never in the street on the PCN and therefore the contravention never occurred

Won't they just think I'm at it? How can I prove I wasn't in that street? And won't they just say I was on another street so it still counts?
  • Its up to them to prove you were on street A, if they put down street B then they cannot change the pcn. As Orford says appeal as you were not there at the time and date they say. If they check the CEO's notes they'll see the error.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

As peter said - but exactly how 'different' was this street name?

    - and, crucial, which Council?

The council is Wandsworth Borough Council

The car was parked on Leathwatie Rd and on the ticket it says Alfriston Rd

Yep, that'll do! i was worried it might have been a minor spelling mistake.

it's invalid but careful how you play it - although they can't change it anyway.

Best approach is just to write/e-mail to say - 'no contravention occurred' as I have never parked on Alfriston Road.
Kindly provide me with a copy of the CEO's notes.

That's all. It's up to them to show you were parked in leathwaite - and they can't. - but don't mention it.

Sounds good. Only think I'm not sure about is won't they wonder how I got the ticket? What I mean is if I query it straight away then that'll show that it was on my windscreen? Should I wait until they contact me further down the line or just write straight away?

You could wait for them to send out the Notice to Owner and appeal that or you could write to the letter on the ticket stating that you disagree with the alleged offence and ask them to consider your appeal i.e. you were not parked or have ever parked in the road in question. Wait, then the council will either agree or disagree, if they disagree then take the appeal to PATAS.

Doesn't make any difference. Sure, they'll know you were parked in Laithwaite Rd, but it's what's on the PCN that counts and they can't correct it and re-issue another ticket
  • Appeal submitted. I'll let you know how I get on.
