Any CC paying 1% cashback except Egg?

Hi all

I have an Egg Money credit card which I pay off in full every month, and use mainly because of the cashback on it. However with the 4% interest available on a positive balance I am considering moving my Egg savings into it, and would like to get another cashback card to use instead.
Don't really want to have one with a temporary offer like the 5% Amex - I am looking for a long term solution.

Any suggestions?

Card is used mainly for petrol, food shopping (Tesco), entertainment online (e.g. CDs DVDs), and meals out.

The "cashback" being in the form of tesco clubcard points or petrol vouchers would be OK provided it was equal or greater in value to 1% cashback I currently get.

Cards I have:

Egg Money - paid off monthly
Halifax 0% APR - will be paid off in June
John Lewis card (HSBC I think?) - £0 balance but keep as I am a JL Parnter and it is the only credit card I can use and get staff discount!

Also, I have current accounts with Barclays and A+L.

Thanks for any advice
Nick

  • Try the Shell Citicard

3% cashback on Shell fuel purchases and 1% on everything else. And unlike Egg the money is credited to your account each month.

...but be sure to read the small print on redeeming your cashback, ie it's only redeemable against future Shell fuel purchases.

And don't forget Tesco fuel is generally cheap, and has double points on a Clubcard at the moment. All of which means a (near) 8% discount if redeeming the points on their Tesco Deals.

The SKYCARD works out at 1% cash-back when you redeem your Sky Points against your SKY TV account.

    Thanks YorkshireBoy.
However I still think the shell card is a good bet for me as:

    1) I wouldn't use the tesco deals - only use clubcard for money off food vouchers
    2) Tesco haven't got a petrol station at my local store - I have to go to the bigger one further away.
    3) The 2 shell garages local to me are the same if not cheaper than the Tesco on the occasions I checked in recent months. Currently both Shell and Tesco are 87.9 for unleaded.

Thanks. Had a skycard a few years back. At that time you had to build up £500 worth of points to claim £5 off your sky account, rather than it coming off each month. Not sure if this is still the same or not, but I think I'll go with the Shell card as it will definitely give me more £££ back :)

You also get 3% on shell purchases with the citi card, so that effectively lowers the price by 2p/litre

It is still the same yes, I seem to be getting very regular £5s and £10s off my bill! Skycard have told me twice that they are expanding the 'rewards' scheme, once last year and again once this year. Not idea when they plan on starting but must be soon! It is surprising how much we spend on the skycard... we pay it off 2-3 times in a space of 60 days.

I have been on the look out for something better, we have done the AMEX (Once each) and would now need to spend at least £1300 per year to get the extra benefit over the SKYCARD cash-back. We are still unsure what is better for us, AMEX or SKYCARD.

We do not have a shell near us... so would not benefit from their card it :(

Same my closest shell, which is a fair distance away, is also more expensive! by 2p+.

I hadn't noticed that. One other thing is that in order to keep the cashback ongoing you have to make a Shell fuel purchase each month (which is probably why I hadn't noticed the future purchases thing). My cashback from the previous month is always credited to the current month's statement. I just use the Shell card for where Amex isn't accepted.
