Royal Mail - Missing Recorded Post

Last Tuesday (10th Feb) i got one of those 'Sorry, you were out' cards informing me that i had a recorded letter that needed to be signed for. I popped along on Thursday (12th) to pick up my letter only to be told that they did not have the letter, that the postman had not brought it back. I said that i had received this card on Tuesday the clerk looked a bit puzzled. He had another look but still could not find my letter.
He took my details and said they would talk to the postman who delivered the card and find out what happened to my letter. I waited, Friday nothing, Saturday nothing, Monday morning nothing. My brother tried again Monday afternoon, just before they closed, and they still did not have my letter. Today i went back to the delivery office determined to find out what was going on. I handed over my card, and once again i was told that they still did not have the letter. I asked was it likely that i would receive my letter, he said it was highly unlikely.
I asked if there was anyway i could find out who sent the letter. As I thought that i might be able to could contact the person that sent me the letter. No there was not he said. He did suggest that i should get a claim form from my post office. But what do i claim for, i have no idea what was in the letter, it could have been a competition win or it could have been a debt.
This is the first time that this has happend to me, I have alway got my letters or parcels when they had been returned to the delivery office. But the postal service over the past couple of years has been dreadful ever since they cut the second post. I have not received post that i have been waiting for or post has been delivered days or even weeks late after it was sent. I frequently recieve other peoples post. I've had post delivered as late as 4.20pm and i even saw a postman using the boot of his car to deliver post.
What I would like to know is what did the postman do with my letter did he take undelivered post home that day or did the delivery office lose it? I will be making a complaint as this recorded delivery letter is the straw that broke the camels back.

are you waiting for something?!
do complain altho their excuse could be they got the wrong person.
did they write/stick the ref number on the card?!0 -
most likely the postman pouched off a a post office
this is RM's system for duties that do not have the time alloted ot return to the local delivery office
eg on my duty there is 15 minutes alloted pouching off time but im about 5 miles from the delivery office0 -
I'm not waiting for anything i've checked my emails to see if i won anything but nothing. I've asked family and friends and nobody has sent me anything recently. Thankfully there is an item number.
I don't think the postman pouched off at a post office as where i live the delivery office is only a minutes walk from the nearest post office.
It's just infuriating as i'm dying to know what it is. Knowing my luck it's will be somthing boring and official.0 -
its not where you live that dictates pouching off but where the postie finishes.0

A similar thing happened to me recently. I was really worried as I had no way of knowing what it was that I hadn't received. My only hope was that wherever it was it would be returned to the sender after 3 weeks.
I went back to the sorting office a fortnight after the missed delivery and it was there! :j It might be worth trying again before the 3 weeks is up.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
But what is the point of getting a card telling me to go to the Delivery Office to collect the letter when my it could be at a post office?
I hope that it has been sent back to who ever sent it in the first place perhaps they might try and send it again.0 -
Could it have been a summons for court? We see a lot of posties carding these items when they aren't supposed to. Some of them are marked Return to sender immediately if they are undeliverable, some posties still fail to read this and red card them
BTW when custardly said at the post office, it would then have been returned to the delivery office from there. You wouldn't have been able to collect it from the post office without prior arrangement afaik.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
