Your SOA looks a little light in some areas. Nothing at all for entertainment?
    No buildings/contents insurance (you're a home owner)?
You could perhaps squeeze your monthly expenses a bit tighter, get rid of satellite/cable TV and go freeview instead for example, but most of them seem pretty reasonable.

Where you could perhaps improve is by boosting your income.
There's a few pages about it on the main MSE site, and also a board on the forum here, that may give you some initial ideas.
  • Hi Kay

    Well done for posting.
Grocery budget £200 - is this for one person? This seems very high - move to Old Style board for helps and tips on reducing food budget.
Mobile phone £30 - can you reduce the tariff to pay as you go?
Go through the house - can you put anything on ebay to help? greenmetropolis/amazon for books/musicmagpie for DVD's?
Hope this helps - others will be along shortly with more help and advice

At first glance this looks like we should recommend a debt management plan because youe are £129 short of being able to meet your contractual payments.

    But are you?

You declare one adult, no kids, in the household. £200 for food etc is very high for one adult, likewise £130 council tax. You refer to a partner. So do we have a second adult who could share these expenses and free up £129 so that you can meet your contractual obligations?
  • It's very easy to see that your partner normally lives at home with parents - he (or she) thinks two live as cheaply as one and as the rest of us know, that's rubbish.

If he's living with you for half of every week he ought to be paying towards all the bills (not just the food) regularly, every week.

Don't let him get away with it or you'll always have this 'thing' niggling at your relationship.........nobody (well not an adult anyway) should get to live for free!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • could you find 0% cc to transfer your higher rate cards to? although they are few and far between now as i understand it. Also i buy pretty much all value branded food as it tastes the same as more expensive brands (sometimes better)

Your income is low and you are spending over half on the mortage and rent. Anything over about one third and people struggle.

No wonder OH is happy - cheap posh car and free housekeeping. He needs to start making a major contribution.

Otherwise can you take a lodger or is it a one room flat?

You can cut your income to pay the minimum but that is not enough to pay off your debts.

try and agree a staged reduction in the OD if they will let you.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Do you have single person discount on your council tax? Have you checked that you are in the correct band?

I agree with the others, either take in a lodger or insist upon some contribution to the household from your partner. 3/14 of the water, energy and food bills is £50 a month for a start. I'd start with £100 no need for arguments, either he pays or he gets friendly with the sofa. ;) If he does not want to pay he does not get to use the facilities - turn the shower off at the circuit breaker when he gets in, buy foods he doesn't really like. If he is a decent bloke you could show him your finished SoA (when you have added in gifts, haircuts etc.) and explain how worried you are by the shortfall, perhaps he will come over all protective? :D
