Moneysavingexpert losing credibility

Options
Whilst this site is an exceptional one it is going down the route of other misleading organisations wasting time when saying there are some good deals but not publishing them correctly.
For instance, in this weeks email this appeared for Broadband "Two brand new packages tear up previous records; both are from providers with good feedback & come with free wireless routers. Limited Download: Plusnet Value* is £5.99/mth on a 18 mth contract. Its download limit's a generous 10Gb a month, which should suit all but heavy gamers, downloaders, or online TV watchers."

In fact when checking it out the deal is like the banks, offers headline price for three months only then the price rises, it could actually be a bad deal because there is an 18 month contract involved.

Over the last few weeks we have found this to be more and more true and when checking deals out they are either not there or not what is reported.

However good luck to Martin, he is trying hard but must not let go of the fact he started as a consumer champion, not be a capitalist just in it to make money.

Lets have more real money saving deals better researched and listed.

  • Seems a bit harsh! The information we receive on this site is merely a 'lead' and its up to us as adult consumers to see whether the 'deal' is right for us or not, and for us to read the small print, MSE can't hold our hands and lead us all the way! With regard to the Plusnet information, after checking it out it is infact the best possible deal that I could get in my area, although it may not be the same for everyone. I wasnt entitled to the Bethere deal, but thats the way it goes. Its the same with the 2 for 1 restaurant deals, most of these restaurants are not in my area but that doesnt mean that they should not be listed because they dont apply to everyone? Maybe I've read more into your post than was necessary but although I'm a new member I find that MSE is a stepping stone to saving money, although I still have to find the best possible deals from those listed.

NB: Actually, MSE did state that the deal was £5.99 for the frist 3 months then rising to £11.99 for 20% of the country.......... cant get any clearer than that!
 newbie and loving it!

    Hi

    I think there's been a confusion here.

    The full note was actually...

Urgent! Cheapest EVER broadband. £5.99/mth or £6.75/mth unlimited download
Two brand new packages tear up previous records; both are from providers with good feedback & come with free wireless routers. Limited Download: Plusnet Value* is £5.99/mth on a 18 mth contract. Its download limit's a generous 10Gb a month, which should suit all but heavy gamers, downloaders, or online TV watchers. Unlimited Download: Until the end of Feb only, go to O2 subsidiary Bethere* and enter code "broadbandchoices" (we've permission to use this) and you can get a year's unlimited download (fair usage) for an avg. £6.75/mth (free for 6mths then £13.50/mth). Pros, cons & alternatives in the Updated Guide: Cheap Broadband Related Guides: Cheapest Home Phones, Free Wireless Internet

We ALWAYS quote the average price over the contract period - as in the Be There example. For the vast majority of people Plusnet IS £5.99 a month over 18 months. I'm afraid in your case you are one of the 20% of people that can't get the Plusnet deal, and hence your price is different.

This is explained in full in the article as the poster above notes; but we have to cut some things out for space. Which is why the tip note says "Pros, cons and alternatives" etc.

    All the best

    Martin
