de greasing a chip pan

hi just moved house
decided to do some chips last night ,,,but when we moved the chip pan was emptied but not cleaned......
stripped it down and put it in the dish washer which got rid of the oil and grease,
but not the burnt on jelly
normally id remove this with hot water, cream cleaner (JIF) and wire wool
but due to arthritis in my hand it makes it a little hard to do now....
so anyone got a good cleaning tip that's easy on the hand??
thanks
edit:: trying to remove the grease from the top, edges, handle eth.. the pan its self is fine

I used to get tablets from one of the catalogues, probably Kleeneze.

All you do is put one in with water and switch the pan on then it dissolves all the muck and you just pour it away, now I have an actifry though so all it takes is a quick rinse and a dry !

Hmmm. For things like that I've always found that scrubbing it well with neat washing up liquid, and one of those wire wool type pan scrubbers, works well. But I'm afraid that doesn't help much with the arthritis. Must admit I'm surprised the dishwasher didn't shift it, I've always found ours very good at tackling grease.

A couple of "whacky" ideas. Firstly, you could try an engine degreaser ( Gunk or similar ) that you would use on a car. I'm sure it's not really fit for food use, but if you gave it a blooming good clean afterwards, followed by a run through the dishwasher, you'd probably be alright :-~

Or how about tackling it with a wire brush attachment on an electric drill ? Again, pretty drastic but that will shift pretty much anything ( including the non-stick coating if it's got one, so be warned ! )

Use these suggestions at your own risk ! :-)

Soak in soda crystals, dead cheap , and great.
  • i use a mixture of oxyclean and stardrops on greasy roasting tins.top up with water and put on hob and boil for a bit.
i tried this as a last resort on a really tough baked on roaster,if it didnt work it was going in the bin, much to my amazement it came out like new,not sure of amounts just chucked the stuff in!!!!

Put it in the bin. And please the local fire brigade.

They might - and I'm not convinced - taste better than home made oven chips ...... but they stink and are an awful fire risk.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
