Price (of gas) went up twice last year - a total 55% rise!

Edit: Hang on - you said standby which implies electricity. It's colder?

There were substantial fuel price increases last year.

Mine has gone down but only because I fixed the rate and use less. Use more or pay more per kwh, it's going to go up - just look at the number of people posting that their DD has been increased this month in light of winter use so far.

I totally agree with. We are being ripped off by these energy companies with their billion pound profits. It is obscene.

Disagree. My bill has also gone up this Winter and I am using less. The only difference is I pay towards my bill every month using a standing order that I set up with my bank, and then settle the difference when I get the bill in. This way I am in charge of my payments - I much prefer it this way :D

The price rise is likely the be the reason your direct debit is going up. Also, it may be working itself out on your previous meter readings (which does make sense), but if you are using less it may not be taking that into account?
