Yeah I was in the same situation (although I live in England)...they seem to think that the student loan counts for a lot despite the fact that I needed prescriptions every month. I filled it out again while I was doing my Masters with the only difference being I had a part-time job and no loan and got an exemption certificate, even though I was basically on the same income...
it does seem to be a bit of a lottery which students get help

in my daughter's case, she was living away from home, by necessity, & we were not able to make any contributions to help her as our own income was pitifully low at the time, so her loan barely covered basic living expenses + the materials & books needed for her course

Dont forget that if studying (living) in wales prescriptions are free!
  • yes just to add my experience I didn't receive any help having filled in the form, when I rang to query this they said it was down to my having a part time job. I try to get appointments for the dentists and the opticians in the summer hols when I am likely to have a bit of cash and hope that I don't need anything too expensive. You can't budget for being ill but the uni doctors are usually very good in not writing prescriptions if its cheaper over the counter, and don't forget that contraception is free! :D
