Contribution to income based jsa

My six months jsa (contribution based) is almost up. My situation is as follows. I live with my partner and she is self employed earning about £210pw. Is it even worth my while filling out the (tiresome) forms to try and claim jsa (income based). We have 2 kids and get WTC but not CTB. Does anyone know the income cutoff mark to be eligible for CTB (we aren't entitled at mo but I will be £60.50 worse off each week now). Anyway, I doubt whether I'll be entitled to any jsa now, but is it necessary to fill out the forms to get your NI stamp paid? If so do you still have to go along to sign on every 2 weeks and keep a job seeking diary etc to prove you are looking for work even though you're not getting any money?

  • short answer NO

JSA IB is MEANS tested ... thus your partners income is taken into account ..

Just so you know .. Hours can NOT exceed 24 in a week(for a partner)

It MAY be worth still signing on to obtain NI credits

  • yeah you've gotta sign ever 2 weeks & still jobsearch to get your NI credits
  • Ok, cheers folks, at least I now know for sure I'm not going to get any more money. My question now would be, is it worth me going to the bother of signing on for NI credits? I know NI count towards your pension but is there any other benefit or reason for me to get it. I've got at least 20 years worth under my belt already and plan to work again (hopefully!) at some point (I'm 42) so will have many more years to go. I just don't see the point in wasting time/spending money on buses/ keeping diarys etc if there isn't really any benefit in doing so.

I did do. Thanks. I now know that I only need 30 years total NI contributions to qualify for full state pension at 66 (thats first of me finding out I have an extra year added:eek: ). Looks like it will be a waste of time me signing on any further then.

What might have been worthwhile is signing off for 13 weeks or so and then claiming again as the contribution years would change and you might be entitled to JSA(C) again.

I saw new guidance today though that says Rapid Reclaims will be taken for any claim that links in a 26 week period. This change is effective of 2 March 2009. You might still want to try it.
