Claim on my insurance for an accident which did not happen. Threats to cancel policy

Where did the "accident" happen?
I live in Stafford and if I can help with some covert checking of car parks for similar vehicles with similar number plates, I will

All I know is that the claim is being brought by Staffordshire County Council and that the (educated guessed) driver works for them. My car is supposed to have been reversed into a parked vehicle by this person.
Thanks anyway!0 -

Is it OK to contact them (either the claimant or the purported driver) direct or (as this could reach court) do we have to do everything through the insurers? If I could do it that way it seems much easier to sort out, as the insurance companies seem very slow to act.
I don't see why not. Of course, he may not want to talk to you but if he is honest I don't see why he would object to sorting it out.0 -
Thanks. I think I'll try contacting both the claimant and the "driver" today to see if I can disentangle myself from this mess.0

i would leave it to your insurers.
More than likely the TP/TPI got a digit wrong in the reg, happens alot.
It is up to the other party to prove your involvement, rather than for you to defend otherwise.0 -
How awful. Threaten to cancel your policy and move to another insurer if they continue entertaining the claim.0

Bearing in mind you have posted your advice on this moneysavers forum, maybe on reflection you will see it's not what the op is looking for!!
Midlands solicitors may be able to swallow the cost of cancelling their insurance policies in order to move on, but if you read the thread title you will see the poster is concerned that the insurer has already threatened to cancel the policy!0 -
Sorry about the delay - been for a weekend away (by train!!)
Anyway, before I left I threw caution to the wind and emailed the person I suspected may have actually had the accident. They have confirmed that they did have a bump around that time and are just as bemused that I have got involved in it.
I'm still afraid that I will get stung for an extra payment before this is all out and don't really know how to prevent it. To be honest I could do with the money for other things right now. If they do force me to cough up any more I will certainly not renew with them again though - although I'd rather changing insurer was on my timetable than theirs!0
