I bought one today, is it meant to work straight from the box?
i have just turned it on and it is flasing an SD card with a big red cross through it, even though the sd card has been inserted.

Hmmmm, strange, yes I believe they are meant to work out of the box - mine certainly did.
Have you tried removong, and re-seating the SD card? Is there anything actually on the SD card, i.e. can you see any files if you use an SD card reader?
Sounds like you need to return the thing to me....
