So you'd rather have £1K profit from an investment rather than £2K?!?!? You need to seriously re-evaluate your investment strategy

    Did I say that ? I don't think so somehow !!!!!

I have made higher profits on other investments so across all my investments I am doing quite nicely thankyou very much. Yes this product made a little less profit than others but I was happy with what I received. If I wanted your opinions on my investment strategy I would have asked for them.

Don't take out 'tax-free' savings plans. There's 4 different sets of charges with them. If you'd chosen a different product (but with the same sort of risk) you'd have gotten a much better return.

I agree - I've just had my maturity letter. I've paid in £1200 over 10 years and getting £1100 back! Would have been better keeping the money under the bed. To make it worse, the mrs took one out at the same time as me! I'm seething about this - they'd better not ever write to me again...>!!!
  • I just started one of these in June. I am glad I read this thread. I will be cancelling it tomorrow.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Mine had a surrender value of £2,744.82 on 1 Jul 08. Today it is £2,580.98 despite having paid in £200 more. :(

I took this policy out because I was lazy and failed to surrender for similar reasons.

It is due to mature in Mar 2010. Is there any hope that a terminal bonus (or similar) will make it worth keeping? I guess not.

I've asked for the surrender documentation. Need to get Mrs GG to cancel her policy as well and take a Caribbean cruise next year.

So many holidays, so little time.

    Hi

Just got my cheque today... after putting in £25 a month over the last 10 years, I have made a whopping 98p profit! Very disappointed. Had no idea when I took this out just how bad it was.

That's better than me then - I've just had maturity notices for two policies, and both will pay out LESS than I have paid in over 10 years.

A lesson well learnt ... thankfully both were 'only' £10/month.

Have just had a useless rant at Scottish Friendly, suggesting that they change the wording of their maturity letter, which has the bare-faced cheek to suggest that I re-invest the money with them. Hmmmm, let me think about that for a moment ... :rotfl:

  • I can't know what they invested the money in in that time to make the value of the fund less than the amount invested, even with high charges.
  • My £15/month, 10 year bond matures in March. Anyone have any news on latest performance levels? I suspect I'll be lucky to get my money back....!

I would propose that Scottish Friendly stop sending out so much promotional literature (once a month re taking out new Bond, Child BonD, ISA etc etc) and concentrate on their investment performance!!!!
  • Well, just found out that it has returned a 1.3% return on investment. Useless!! £1,800 invested at £15 per month over 10 years. £120 interest paid. And they have the cheek to ask you if you want to invest in an another Scottish Bond! Jokers!
