Do you ahve a Quality save /home bargin need you? They do a sink unblocker for 99p it is good.
It won't fix this prob but if you are getting lots of hair in the plug hole then it's an idea to put stuff down once a month. ( i am always blocking the sink with my mass of hair)0 -
You can also get traps that act like seives to prevent this stuff from getting down drains. We use one on all sinks in the house. They just fit into the hole and silter out stuff like hair, on in the kitchen, food waste. Slows down emptying of the sink or bath a bit, but at least it means you can catch the gunk before it leaves the sink/bath and thus avoid problems.0

I've seen them in lots of places: hardware shops, pound shops. Sometimes made of stainless steel and sometimes plastic. The ones we have actually came from John Lewis. Made of plastic. Take them out regularly to clean them on both sides and then reinsert. Had them for more than 15 years and no signs of deterioration at all.
Edit
Just found my parents had a spare, unused. So now I know they are called "sink strainers".0 -

finally!! many thanks for the name...we wanted to get them for all the plugs in house but didnt know what they were called to look them up on ebay - lots listed for coupla quid inc postage on there btw...anyone have a way of getting around this with pop up waste type sinks?!!R0 -
Haven't tried this myself but someone once recomended to me squirting a tube of depilatory cream down a clogged plughole to clear it, followed half an hour later bya kettle full of boiling water. I've not tested it but I can certainly see where they were going with the suggestion.1

Morrisons usually have them (you know the way they have odds and ends like that hanging up at random intervals around the shelves?) - look like a plastic flower with holes in the middle.
Kim & Aggie had a tip for unblocking sinks which involved a cup of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) down the sink followed by a cup of vinegar; fizzed quite spectacularly. Left for an hour then flushed with water.0
