Driving Licence Renewal?

I thought the new photo licences were valid for 10 years. I'm only in my 40s before anyone asks.

The problem is my licence says:-

4a 13-09-03 (date of issue)
4b 02-11-10 (expiry date)
4c DVLA (issued by)

Why did I not get 10 years on issue? What to do about it?

I know I'm a little early but it has rankled for the last year or so. Any ideas?

Yes the photo was on your provisonal from 02/11/00 to 13/09/03? or other reasion that the licence was changed, address change? Its the photo that expires really not the licence.

Mine is 23-09-08 and 08-08-09 less than 1 year!

Not provisional passed my test in 1978.

Yes but that is not the issue. I think I have just figured it out.

Although the dates don't match entirely I thought I applied for a photo licence the first time in 2003. But now thinking back I took a little sabatical from driving for 6 months in 2000 (after a small altercation with a police car at set of traffic lights) and must have had to get one at that point.

Same with me. I lost my licence then got it reissued the issue date changed but the expiry did not.

My licence is now close to expiry and I'm going to have to get a change of address. Might be a good idea to change the photo too? Can you do that before it's due?

I need a cahnge of address on mine again but from what I gather they will just update the address and as you suggest not the photo so I guess the expiry date wouldn't change.

Has anyone renewed their photocard driving licences?

Mine is due within a month and wonder does DVLA send you back the old/expired card together with the NEW one?

my girl just got an email go round at work telling folks about the photo card licence ,and that you must check the dates on the back ,items 4a issue date
and 4b renewal date,
the green counterpart says you are licenced till you are 70 years old,but the photocard has to be renewed every 10 years at a £17.50 cost, another thieving stealth tax,you get the same photo back on the new licence as well,although i would think trhat very few people look the same after ten years, i personally lok more like my jack russell than he does these days
