Sky+ for existing Sky customers - more expensive !

My Dad has been a Sky subscriber for years and I've talked him into having Sky+.

However, I noticed its £50 + £30 installation for new Sky customers and £100 + £60 installation for existing Sky customers.

Talk about not valuing customers loyalty !!!!

I was wondering what would happen if my Dad cancelled his Sky contract and then phoned a few days later and said he wanted Sky+? Or would they suss he was a previous sky customer and refuse?

Any existing Sky customers got Sky to give them a good deal on Sky+? Whats the best approach?

he could ring them and threaten to cancel unless they do him a deal, i'm sure they are advertising on the telly £49 all in, including existing customers, it's just a thought
wins so far:- absolutely nothing, not even an arguement:mad:
  • The cancelling and rejoining doesn't work, they definitely recognise this ploy! However, the threatening to leave ploy usually results in some sort of offer such as 3 months half-price or whatever.

They definitely don't value existing customers, their offers are specifically aimed at pulling in new customers and relying on you not leaving them once you're hooked. Charging existing customers more than new ones for something is one of their standard practices (and I suppose, makes perfect business sense for them).
  • we were on the phone to them last night told them hubby getting made reduntant or maybe on nights so no need for sky anymore. so they said we can have sky+ for £45 getting it monday afternoon :j

I cancelled Sky because big trees behind the house mean we get limited signal, since cancelling they phone regularly to try and tempt me back. Last offer was free Sky+ with free installation plus a £50 M&S voucher. I once again pointed out I don't get a Sky signal so no matter how good their offer is I will not be taking them up on it.

Main point is, if you can live without Sky for a while cancel, then wait for the phone calls to tempt you back. As others have mentioned the threat alone of cancelling may prompt them to offer you SKY+ for free. Make sure you speak to the nice Scottish laddies, they are the ones with the real power to offer freebies.

  • i got sky+ for a free upgrade!
just explained that new customers in the shopping centre in town were getting it, and i was given it, just for taking movies for 1 month!
    THANK MEEE:j
  • Me and H2B are often moaning about this too. We always walk past their stalls they have in the shopping centre but the deal is always for new customers only.

Wern't sure if we were brave enough to threaten cancellation as they may call our bluff and then couldn't watch Lost!!
  • once they cancel u have 30 days to change ur mind b4 its cut off :)
    go for it!!
    THANK MEEE:j

I phoned up yesterday and went down the route of cancelling because I work shifts ;o) and miss all the tv I pay for!

The sales guy could only offer me £99 for box and £60 to install, got to cancellations and was told as I was a valued customer of 5 years I could have the box for £15 and install £30 plus multi room for 6 months at £5. Was also told when the order was put through it "may" have dropped the installtion cost but it didn't :o( I did try the, "well can't you credit my account by £30 then" but that didn't work either!!! If you keep it light hearted and chatty some of the people can be brilliant - I did try this trick before Christmas but the best deal I was offered was £99 including instalation.

So sky plus will be in this house - finally - by the end of the week - hooray!

On a side note, be ready for the sales team to offer you HD as it's cheaper and then when you tell them you don't have HD, they tell you to go and buy a new tele - are they paying?!

A while back I got the Currys £30 Sky+ box to replace my older one that was on the way out.
I had tried getting a deal out of Sky but they wouldn't budge. I even said I would like to downgrade my package and pointed out to them that they were losing more than a free upgrade but they didn't bat an eyelid.
I had to ask different salesmen in the shop before finding one who would do me the deal.
  • We phoned up and told them we can not afford to be on the top package and can we just go down to basic entertainment package. now for three months were paying just £31.00 in place of the £51 that includes the £4.00 fee for paper billing. at end of three months we will drop down as can ill afford to have them charge full price. husband watches his football online anyway so he will not mis that. half things you pay for you NEVER watch anyway. we watch maybe 1 or 2 movies a month blockbuster would be cheaper
