Quote Difference Between Moneysupermarket & The Aa!!

Options
Hi,
I got approx. a £22 difference (20%) in the home contents quote from moneysupermarket.com (£102) and the price given once connected to the AA site (£124).

Lowest price and ease- They are why you search on the price comparison sites.
Surely this defeats the object?

The AA couldn't tell me (actually they said that "there are certain charges added.. MSM makes assumptions" etc.. blah blah, which means they don't know!)- £124 is the price.. I double checked all details with them.

MSM.com said the quote is generated by the AA's system directly and not them.

Annoying.

They are brokers. They decide on how much cut they want to take. No different to how its been for decades. The only difference now is they have internet sites rather than offices in the high street.

If you asked 10 different intermediaries/brokers to quote the same product from the same provider then you are likely to end up with 10 different prices.

It's usually to do with the questions asked on MSM's website. Each insurer has their own set of questions before they can provide a quote, but it would be an absolutely nightmare for MSM to cover every single one of those questions for over 50 different insurers!

So MSM find a balance - they create a set of questions that are easy and quick to answer, but will also satisfy the majority of the insurers. This means there will always be a certain amount of interpretation and assumption because they won't match completely.

So the quote of £102 is perfectly accurate for the questions you've answered and the way the AA interprets them... but in fact that interpretation is a bit off and your actual circumstances are different to how MSM assumed they would be. If you took out the £102 policy, you wouldn't be adequately covered. The AA makes up for it by asking its own questions afterwards, and then gives you the correct price of £124.

Yes it's annoying, but at least you can get a good idea of quotes that are mostly accurate, without having to spend hours entering loads of information! It's unfortunate that the difference was so great in your case.
