Can I get a refund on a flight?

I booked with Air Asia on my Egg credit card. My girlfriend cant make the flight now because her course is overrunning. Its gonna cost us the 500 quid to change the flight dates which we cant afford. Is there anything I can do to cancel the flight and get some money back?

Have a good search of their website to see if they make an administration charge when refunding taxes.

I spoke to them on the phone and they said they cant give a refund after money had been taken. So it's possibal to get a tax refund? Even if they charge?

Hi.

Unlucky about the flights, that's a shame about your girlfriend's course. Unfortunately most of these flights are non-refundable and will cost a fortune to change (as you found out!). If you do choose not to fly however, you are entitled to a refund in the airport taxes, as Air Asia will no longer be required to pay them.

Their website states the following:

How do I request for an airport tax refund for the flight that I have missed?
Answer :

In line with industry practice, AirAsia X will refund the Airport Tax only when contacted by the guest. To request for a refund, the guest should send an email to [EMAIL="AirportTaxRefund@airasia.com"]AirportTaxRefund@airasia.com[/EMAIL]. You will receive an acknowledgment within 15 working days. All Airport Tax refunds shall be subjected to a Processing Fee specified in our Fee Schedule.
The mode of refund will depend on the guest's original mode of payment when the seat was purchased. The refund can only be given to the person(s) named in the booking and not to a third party, in accordance to the mode of payment for the seat.
Do provide us with the following information when you contact us for your refund.
a) Payment by credit card:
1. The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number
b) Payment by Direct Debit or Cash or Travel Agent:
1. The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number
2. Bank Account Number
3. Bank Name
4. Name of Account Holder (Refund can only be given to the person named as a guest in the booking and not to a third party).

I'm not quite sure what the Transaction Fee is, there seems to be too many options/countries and without knowing more about your flight I can't really help you.

I'd give them a call and see what they say. Get the fees confirmed and the amount of taxes you will be likely to get refunded. You won't get the 'fare' back, but should be able to get the taxes.

In that situation, I would be tempted to miss the "extra" part of the course. Ask the tutor to suggest materials that could be read in Asia or wherever.

Alternatively, read your travel insurance carefully (you did arrange insurance when you paid for the flight, I hope) and see if there is anything that enables you to make a claim.
