I can hardly believe this! Just been trying to send a query (mail from within internet banking) on HSBC website and to my utter astonishment I discovered that the site would not allow me to use the pound sign (£) or the question mark (!). How ridiculous.

It doesn't surprise me. I've tried repeatedly to get HSBC to respond to website problems (they keep saying particular versions of explorer and netscape work with MAC's, but they don't). I believe that whoever did their web design did not stick to protocols. What's odd/funny/sad is that other (international) HSBC sites works fine. So much for a world-wide bank, or whatever they call themselves. Of course, you can't actually speak to tech support unless you're a customer (I was trying their demo to see if it would work.) Actually, they wouldn't even speak to their own online support staff when they called on my behalf! I can tell you, that rep was really irritated. Add to that the fact that at various times they've told me to log on to internet banking to ask the questions! If I could do that, I wouldm't have the questions.
