Alarm Maintenance contract

When we bought our house, there was an existing maintenance agreement with a company.
We changed contacted them and changed the name to ours.
After feeling very ripped off with the service we have received, we decided to cancel the service and informed them in december. They now (3 month later) inform us that our contract stipulates that we need to give them3 months notice and therfeore we still owe them money.
I am fairly sure we have never signed a contract with them and I have never seen any terms and conditions.
Do I have a legal right to contest the charges?

you may be held to the contract as per the telephone conversation. they dont really need a signed paper.
however, tell em to take a running jump and see what happens next. most companies will forget it. court time/lawyers cost money.
you can alway pay up later if they get shirty with legal stuff etc...and you chicken out.
tell em that you were never told of any 3 month notice period.Get some gorm.0
