Cat C has suffered "structural" damage, this is damage beyond panels and damage that requires the sub structure of the vehicle to be repaired, thats usually a bit more than reversing in to things, are you sure this is the same car the log book says it is ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. bought a ford focus 1.6 tdci diesel in october last year from a so called friend of my husbands. only had it 4 days when the engine management light and exclamation mark with gears round it came on, took car back and they cleared fault and lights on dash went out. since then the same thing has happened at least 6 times, but this time they cant or wont clear the fault. they said i should take it to this other place and have it checked for dpf fault, did this paid 158 pounds went okay for 8 days and now the lights are back on, it was a private sale, am so ill because i feel like i,ve been conned, paid 2,000 cash, can anyone help or advise me what to do, also there is a loss in power, HELP0

As an ex- workshop foreman, I would no more trust the word of a back-street cowboy who says "I'm in the trade", than I would bite off my own arm.
Best advice for anyone here buying and/or maintaining your car, is to find a good garage by word of mouth and stick with it. I used to look after my local customers and so did most other garage workers I knew. This ensures repeat business and a good rep in the pub/supermarket/hairdressers/whatever.
No business wants a bad rep and a bad name. Those that do get a bad name, do not last long.
Absolutely - and this is why I bought the car I think.
If anyone else had offered it to me I wouldn't have had the guts as I just don't know enough. A recommendation is worth more than all the promises in the world. As well as keeping the old blue bird happy, they also keep my 27 yo Bedford van on the road even though I know it annoys them as it doesn't fit in the forecourt.0 -
seems very expensive, cat c doesnt bother me, but at that price, your overpaying. I would want a great condition car, without any damage for that money.
But on the other hand, with all cars of this age, buy on condition, and if your planning on keeping it till it dies, and your very, very happy with it. then why not.. at least its all above board.0 -
er he bought it 3 years ago:rotfl:
so at only 6000 miles and 3 years motoring at a cost of only £500 in all that time hes laughing all the way back from the bank0 -

Erm, no. It means that it might of POSSIBLY suffered structural damage. It does not mean that it definitely has.
Our car was written off as a Cat C a 2 years ago. I was simply told rebuild its front end, MOT it and we'll reinsure it. There was no mention of there being any structural damage at all and the engineer confirmed it was only a Cat C because the repairs would of been £4.5k and the car was worth £800. I had to do a lot of research on this issue because of a legal spat with them afterwards.0
