  • Hey all!

Just a bit of advice from those who have been to the warehouse.

I am planning a trip to Manchester from Cornwall next month and have decided to detour to Approved foods.

I really want to know if it is going to be worth my while, as I will be doing quite a few extra miles as well as a stop over in a hotel, so going to be paying out in order to save money if that makes sense! lol

Just wanted definate confirmation that it's worth going before I book the stop over hotel and make the long journey!

    Thanks!

We are in Cornwall to and have combined visits to AF with trips elsewhere. It is a long way out of your journey as you already seem to know, but I have to say in my opinion and experiance it is worth it lol. As op said there is things online that isn't in the shop and vice versa. However last weekend when my mum and brother visited I gave them a list which had been made up from the online food and what we had bought previously and the staff took our lists and collected together what was in stock for us. It is cheaper if you can go to the warehouse for obvious reasons.
I have also got to say that Dan and the team are great, friendly and helpfull and we will be making trips with an empty van specificly to visist AF and stock up thats how much good value it is lol!!! :D :T
  • While visiting my sister at Sheffield Uni, we went for our second visit to Worksop to restock.
Again lots of great deals; though just missed Dan this time (spotted him while driving out)

Some of this might be duplicating what's on the website,
so i'll keep the list of the favourites from this trip short (have yet to open everything!)

24x33cl diet coke £4 (understandably less than when delivered, as breakages are a significant risk)
Box of ice pops (approx. 120!) £1
Polish chocolates (Kasztanki?) 4x430g boxes for £1! (yes, that's 1.7kg of chocolate for a quid!!) They're milk-chocolate exterior, with a sort of nutty truffly filling; individually about 50% bigger than your typical thorntons chocolate.
2x420g jars of honey - £1, ASAL, a turkish brand apparently.
3x250g Kohinoor rice treats (flavoured microwave rice in a bag), £1.
Maryland Munch Bars, display box of 24 £1.50!

There were piles of unopened palettes on the left-side of the warehouse, I forgot to ask what was in them, maybe lots of new & exciting stock? :j

Anyone who has ever seen supermarket sweep will appreciate how much fun it is to (over)fill a rather beaten up trolley with piles of crazy cheap stuff !;)

Thanks again to everyone involved in approved foods!

I'd ring before departing, just to make sure they're open that day! (& arrive before they close up shop @ 4pm)
Such a small operation is obviously susceptible to the unlikely, but not impossible situation of everyone being ill.

I have to report there are still problems with the stock control.. I ordered on 27th February. I got a phone call yesterday to say there was no honey in stock. I'm not sure if my orders been dispatched or not. I was speaking to a friend of mine today, who ordered honey a couple of days later. She got her order yesterday, including honey.
I don't know when TehJumpingJawa went to the warehouse, but at that time, they had honey.
Sorry to have a moan, but I'm just a bit miffed. If I'd ordered less, I might have got the things I really wanted quicker. It's my fault for making sure I get to the delivery limit!

    Bonus! Extra protein ;)
In all seriousness, they look & taste fine to me

If someone else buying from approved foods discovers a maggot infestation, I may begin to worry - until then, it's just media hype.

Thanks mcallister1, I've been waiting for orange juice to put my order in. But I've quickly put it in this morning. At least I'll be in the queue before the mad rush from the Telegraph today. Poor Dan, just when he ws getting back on track.....!
