Greek B&B deposit

This year we are planning to go to a Greek island for a holiday using 2 flight tickets we won in a competition,I have found a good budget B&B with good reviews and it is just what we are looking for.
To pay through a booking agent it will cost £60+ more than directly through the hotel, the hotel is asking for 50% deposit to be paid by bank tranfer and I am not sure if this is a good idea, I have never used this way of paying for anything.
Am I worrying over nothing or should I suggest paying with a credit card etc?

  • I have used this method a couple of times when paying deposits on overseas accomodation. They usually request bank transfer when they haven't the facilities for accepting credit/debit cards. I have never had a problem but, unfortunately, the bank charge approx £25 for the transfer!

Have a look at this website and see if your B and B is in the hotel guide that's mentioned.
I see no reason why any reputable B and B will not accept a credit card booking as a deposit and if you are concerned there will always be plenty of viable alternatives.
Tourism in Greece as in much of the rest of the Med is likely to be hit badly this year so I wouldn't worry excessively about finding somewhere.

As a rule you should be comforted by the fact that tourism is very well policed on Greek islands and it is rare for tourists to be ripped off by B and B owners.

What about Paypal - most people have one of those accounts!

  • We've paid for accommodation in Greece by bank transfer- and in France for that matter, without a hitch. Can't remember being charged to do so though.
