Save the Cheque!

I recently read this article on the BBC website about the declining use of cheques:

I know they're slow and outdated compared to instant transfers, but does anyone not think its a shame they're dying off? They're a piece of history!

I propose a campaign to save our Chequebooks!

When I had a cheque book, I hated using it. I used to tell people to cash them straight away. As sometimes id forget id written one, and they hadnt cashed it straight away, and id spend the money, and it would bounce.

I am very forgetfull. Never done it on purpose. Ripped mine up in the end so I couldnt use it.

I personally don't like the idea of sending off a piece of paper with your account number and sort code, as well as your signature written on it.

I use mine to pay the milkman ,and the veg man ,also any tradesmen to pay for work done on the house.

"It's a piece of history" is no reason to keep a method of payment that is slow, inefficient, costs far more than pretty much any other to implement and is ridiculously susceptible to fraud and theft. They need to die, ASAP.

Not many people will join it. Let me give you an example you have no idea when it will be sent to the bank.

I go through 3 - 4 cheque books a year, as do most other horse owners ... Paying for competition entries, vet, farrier .... I wouldn't like to walk round a muddy field all on my own with wads of cash in my pockets ....

Somebody had better have a word with the Building Societies about this, many of them still only accept cheques as a method for payment.

Obviously they must deem them secure.;)

And how would you open a new current/savings account as most,(all?) banks/BS want a personal cheque drawn on your nominated bank account re money laundering laws to open said new account!
