M&S compensation

Options
Recently bought a table, chairs and sideboard from marks and spencers but when the table and sideboard arrived there was no chairs. I rang customer service and they told me no chairs had been ordered and that they would have to be made for me but shouldnt take more than a few weeks. It is now three months and many phone calls to the customer service later and i still havnt got the chairs. Also no explantion as to why they werent delivered in the first place!!! Obvioulsy i will be looking for compensation but all they are saying is that they wont disscuss compensation until the chairs have arrived but will probably only offer gift vouchers which are no use to me as i wont be shopping in M&S again after this. Just wondered anybody got any advice on my rights for more compenstion and what i can do to get it. Cheers

  • It depends what out of pocket expenses you have had. Compensation would probably cover the phone calls.

Anything else would be a "goodwill gesture" from the company

AFAIC you have no 'right' to compensation. However, M&S should offer you something for your inconvenience.
  • Firstly who forgot to order the chairs? Did you forget to order them or did you actually order them and they forgot to send them? You should be able to check this on your order confirmation or maybe it will be on your order history in your M&S account if you did this online?

If it was an error on your part then you really have no grounds for anything but if they forgot then firstly you need to establish when they arrive that they match your table and then take into account the length of time it has taken for the chairs to reach you before you can approach M&S for anything. It is likely to be vouchers they offer and the simplest approach would be to accept them and use them for gifts if you really don't want to shop there again.
  • thanks for the replies, it was their fault i ordered them and they just didnt turn up more annoyed that they havnt given me explanation why been 3 months now aswell. oh well guess i'll just take the vouchers. thanks for the advice anyway

Why will you not be shopping in M&S again? They made ONE mistake and are rectifying it. Do you never make mistakes?

And why do you need compensation? How much has this affected your life?
