Bank Charges incurred from Npower

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advise before I write to complain to Npower.

I cancelled my direct debit with npower on the 12th of Jan and asked to pay by Giro credit slips which were recieved a week later. (Assuming that npower would of cancelled the direct debit at this point). I then went to pay my bill and the slips were not accepted with my bank which I thought was odd. I rang again at the beginning of Feb and explained the situation in which they ordered me a payment card which still to date has not been recieved.
We have gone from paying dual fuel payments of £60 to payment card £105 per month.
When I recieved my bank statement I have incurred two charges from failed direct debits which I had instructed to be cancelled 14 working days previous. My bank have lanched an investigation (I cancelled with the bank aswell), into these charges. When I rung up Npower to ask why I have been charged they have said the direct debit had not been cancelled.... however you would assume that after asking for a different payment method it would be obvious? They then cancelled it on the 12th Feb and claim to have no record of a cancelled direct debit.... but advised me to write in and include a bank statement....

Who is at falut? And what do you think the chances are that I will get the charges back, considering no records of cancellation were held with nPower. (The man in the bank could not tell me when I cancelled the direct debit)

  • i forgot to add the lady frm npower in a previous call told me when it had been cancelled. when i rang again... no knowledge of the cancellation.
