BTW, is there any reason why AVG wouldn't have stopped this infection in the first place?

No one anti virus product detects all virus - it is possible that you were infected prior to AVG releasing a definition to detect it.

You may wish to review your security software.

You need 1 anti virus product - I am not a fan of AVG but other are.

also 1 Firewall - I use PC Tools Firewall

General Malware I use MalwareBytes and Superantispyware - I have the paid for version but they are available free in a reactive capacity.

I agree with Spender. Id advise replacing AVG with AVIRA anti virus (Make sure you use the AVG removal tool if you decide to do so)
