Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me or at least tell me where I stand. I have just moved into a new flat and have got my finalising bills to pay for my previous address. Before we moved we tried to switch energy providers for gas and electric from EON to N Power but the process took so long it was only done 3 weeks before we moved.
At the beginning of January we paid our normal direct debit to EON of £58 and then switched on the 7th. Now N Power are saying we owe them for 3 weeks worth of electricity at £120. Is this normal?!
I just don't see how I could have used so much considering both my partner and I work full time and are out of the house during the day. The only thing it may be was a small electric heater on a very low heat because it was an old property we struggled to keep heat in and were concerned about running up a huge gas bill.
If this figure sounds ok, I don't mind paying it but just a bit of advice would be helpful!
Thank you

Electric heaters are expensive if you're running them for more than a short time.
Could it be that you had had (under)estimated readings in the past and some of this is catch up?0 -
If it was on a low heat and you were struggling to maintain the temperature then the electric heater could have been going nearly constantly. 100 hours (£120) of a one bar heater is only four or five hours per day. So it's not impossible.
Of course, there's also the possibility of previous inaccurate estimated reads.0 -
Sounds like the Change of supply reading was estimated, did you provide nPower with a reading when you changed over to them?0

Thank you. I think it was a combination of the two. We went on the meter reading our landlord had given us (3 months into our tenancy) as we were unsure which electricity box was ours as it was a ground floor flat. He is being chased for money from Powergen so he may have added some of it to our bill!
Thanks for your help. I'll pay it and learn from my mistakes!0
