I work in trafford park also, and public transport is awful. i travel from wigan everyday and without a car my journey would take almost 3 hrs.
One other option I didnt mention is looking for higher paid job but guess this is a only a long term possibility and wouldnt help short term.

yeah my car insurance isn't a mistype!!
i'm 22 years old and have a 1999 1.6 VW Golf, I work in Trafford Park and to give you an idea of where i am my office overlooks Old Trafford Football ground, and i live 20 miles away. I start at 7am and there is no bus service between the 2 locations so giving up the car is siply out of the question
as for my mobile yes i am on a 200 mins anytime any network contract, and the credit card and store card have both been shredded!!!
OK, you need a car, but you don;t need a 1.6 and you definitely don;t need a boy-racer Golf that attracts high premiums!!
I think you should change the car for something a little smaller engine-wise, and a different make cos Golfs are notorious for being the boy racer car.
I have a 1.4 Skoda Fabia that is almost the same as a Golf, but cheaper insurance. Skodas are good these days.

LOL Henry or 2 exhausts
can you car share so you would not be driving every day and save a bit on fuel ??
can you get a night time job in a bar or restaurant ( restaurant is better as you get more tips ) you would still get a night out ( ok so you would be working ) and get paid for it
speak to your lenders and let them know your situation....Im sure they would rather get some money than nothing
Good luck

When you say you lost 2 weeks pay, you did get statutory sick pay, didn't you? I think this is about £56 a week - I could be wrong, of course.... :rolleyes:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Hi there
Without an SOA we really cant help much more.
I know how "old- fogish" it sounds for us to say, get rid of your car, but your insurer is charging you what you cannot afford cos of "the name" and they will do till you wrap it round a tree or it gets nicked. ( thier assumptions not mine) Sell it, otherwise you are looking at this noose round your neck for the rest of the time you have it.
If you did not recieve ANY sick pay ( not even SSP) then your employer IS breaking the law, and there are likely to be grounds for you to claim back a) what you havent had b) any bank charges that are your employers fault. Youll probably ned to go to cab for this though. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
SSP rules I believe are self certification for 5 days and a doctors sick note after that. I think the ssp rate is around £65 now p.w. However SSP does kick in after 3 days, so you should have received something.
Sorry you have been poorly, and I trust you are feeling better now. I too don't get paid sick pay, but I have an account that I put £10 in per month. That way I have enough to top up SSP for a little while should I ever get ill. I know that sounds stupid as I am debt badly, but at least that way I do not default!!"I will be debtfree":p0
