Struggling with something really basic here - IM Requirement

I need an IM for chat, but also for Video Chat (have webcam). Needs to be completely free of course!
Struggling to find anything. I want to chat to my nieces who are only 11 and 8. Found eyeball chat but the kids could easily enter a chat room and talk to anyone.
Basically, to sum up. Want Instant Messanger with Webcam Video Chat option, Free, using a buddie list where the can only see me and each other and fairly hard for them to figure out how to add other users.
Any ideas guys?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

They can't make calls to a normal landline unless there is credit on the account.
I use skype to skype calls when DD is at grandparents.0 -

If you sign up for google apps, you will need a domain name, you can set up google talk to only allow other users on the same domain to talk to each other. This would be the best was of stopping them add others. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Skype has the added advantage of being multi-platform so I can use Skype on my Mac to video chat with someone using Skype on a PC. MSN Messenger on Mac doesn't support video even though the PC version does.0
