Natwest - Normal and Platinum - transfer credit limit possible?

I have just managed to secure a NatWest Platinum card (9 months free BT for existing Natwest current account customers, 2% fee for others). I already have an old NatWest card which I have not used for years but has a really good credit limit. Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer the credit limit from this old card to the new card (and then close the old card), then use the new credit limit as the free BT?

Many thanks

I've no personal experience of it, but I've seen it reported many times on here, the stoozing site, and TMF, that it's possible to shuffle the limits round on all RBS, Natwest, & Mint cards.;)

    Good luck.

I had spoken to cs who claimed it is not possible, as limits based on overall credit. As this wouldn't alter the overall combined limit with them (but will significantly alter my overall stooze if I can get my hands on the credit limit!), not sure if I was unlucky and spoke to the wrong person or if a NatWest policy.

    Many thanks

Huh? Isn't that a contradiction?

Perhaps I did not explain clearly - it is not a contradiction - when they consider your application they take into consideration all your credit and credit limits (no doubt according to credit reference agency files and their records) to set the credit limit. As I now have two cards with them, if I move the credit limit from one to the other, their exposure is no different.

    Eg
    Card Credit Limit
    Card A £1000
    Card B £2000

Move credit limit from Card A to Card B. Close A. Would then have £3000 limit on B (which allows 0% BT for 9 months, perhaps why they are not keen to let me move the credit limit).

    Many thanks

  • I'm not entirely sure. They can be arkward. The only way I tell my customers (I'm in the collection dep't for them!) is to stay within their limit for 3 months. So perhaps give it a few months then call them & ask!

  • I can confirm that RBS Group (inc Natwest) - do not allow credit limits to be transferred to another of their card. I tried this several times and were refused.

Has anyone else had experience or know the official line? I note the comments from YorkshireBoy that some people on other boards claimed to have done this, but don't want to annoy them as I am sure there must be a record kept on your file when you phone up to enquire?

    Many thanks

In answer to my own question, it may be possible but they wouldn't budge - perhaps not based on my overall credit limit but how much credit limit they were willing to let me have at 0%.
