My colour theme for my wedding is Burgundy & Gold.

I wanted top know what flowers come in this colour and what websites have pictures of the flower.

I'm trying to avoid roses as they are expensive.

Thank you

    Hi,

Are you sorting the flowers yourself for the wedding? Is the florist not able to suggest the flowers? The florist that is doing the flowers for my sisters wedding this summer (a friend of my Mum) is going to suggest the flowers that we will need.

However a good website that I found that you can find what flowers come in what colour is:

  • You can have flowers dyed to whatever colour you want, but i think this would be expensive.

A friend of mine had feathers instead of flowers, you can get them from john lewis in all colours, and they dont die on you.

Or go to you your local garden centre and ask their advice.

    good luck

If you're not doing the flowers yourself, just give a fabric sample to your florist and say - match this colour for the least amount of cash!

In terms of coloured flowers, roses are not that expensive - they are also available all year round and come in a huge variety of dark reds/burgundies.

Try on some of the wedding forums for some other ideas - I use:

not sure what to advise if you're doing the flowers yourself though - try getting to a flower wholeseller?
  • gerberas are not expensive flowers, fill a bouquet really well and come in burgundy colours. I think the idea of putting things other than your flowers (feathers, spirals, beads, whatever) is also a good way of getting your gold theme in. Or you could include alot of dark foliage and paint gold glitter paint onto the leaves. Martha Stewart weddings advise that when you pick your colour theme you should always throw in a colour that is not in the scheme, just to highlight things. so if your colours are hot pink, orange and green you should tie your bouquet with a yellow ribbon. It stops everything looking samey. This might give you a bit of breathing room when trying to find flowers to fill your bouquet.

  • Coloured feathers along with flowers are a good idea. They look fab, come in pretty much any colour you want at any time of year, and make a nice display in a vase afterwards. Gerberas are lovely, and among the most photogenic of flowers.
I had dried flowers at my wedding for reasons of economy (I was offered a loan of artificial ones which would have saved even more money, but I don't like artificial flowers much), and the dried flowers were really nice, and didn't have to be restricted by what was in season.
  • shirlyn, I was "working" in the library the other day, in their reading room, which has copies of a variety of magazines including Asiana wedding, as red is a traditional wedding colour there were loads of flowers and accessories in deep reds and golds. If you happen to see an edition of this in your newsagents or library then i recommend you have a flick through for inspiration.

    Hello

I am a florist and specialise in weddings, so please feel free to PM me for some help.

As a previous respondent wrote, roses are not necessarily that expensive: what tends to drive up the cost is using flowers that are out of season, and also not using flowers smartly, ie using different blooms for button holes / table displays and bridal / bridesmaid bouquets, which means you pay for a lot of wastage as your florist cannot buy stems singly or in specific quantities, rather, she/he has to order in pre-ordained quantities (ie 20s/50s) from the wholesalers.

Check out https://www.flowers.org.uk for a guide on what flowers to suit which colour theme and also what's in season when.

    Good luck!

Carnations and Spray carnations often come in a nice rich burgundy colour, and are always available.

Excellent comments from Jillinoz and as she says, roses not necessarily expensive, its only really the long stemmed ones that are, and that would simply be a waste. Standard roses would be fine for a bouquet.

Alstromeria sometimes comes in burgundy, and freesia. Gerbera has already been mentioned. Sometimes get burgundy lillies.

The good old chrsyanthemum does too, sometimes plain burgundy (double headers), sometimes with the yellow/gold centre.

Dyed flowers are more expensive, and a florist would have to buy a bulk pack - and I haven't actually ever seen any dyed in burgundy anyway, so it would probably be a specialist thing.

As for gold, personally I wouldn't recommend "painting" as the paint could come off on your dress. Unless you are aiming to look like a fairy of course.

Where I worked, if someone wanted gold in their scheme, we usually incorporated that with ribbons and trimmings. you can of course do the same with the burgundy. Depending on the style of bouquet you are after, this can be in the form of ribbon twirls or trails, the wrapping, the tie bow, whatever you fancy.

I would agree with Tondella, add a bit of contrast - are you wearing white/cream? Have a bouquet in either of those, picked out with burgundy flowers and gold ribbons, and yes plenty of greenary.
