  • I hate these guys! I was made redundant just after Christmas and took out one of these loans prior to this which meant I was struggling to pay back.

I constantly called the number and kept getting through to voicemail saying the lines were busy, try later and had no reply to my email.

I owed approx £320 including charges. On pay day they took out 3 random amounts on my debit card, leaving me overdrawn with my bank.

After trying to get through once again I finally spoke to an advisor who said I still owed an additional £70 even though they'd taken £300 out of my account!

I was on the phone for a lengthy period of time and the advisor hung up on me!!! I haven't been able to speak to anyone since.

I received a letter a couple of days ago from their partner company saying I now owed almost £300!!!

I'll just ride this one out and see how it holds up in court when I've made several attempts to repay and their advisors simply didn't want to know.

Payday loans might be cheaper than charges, but at least there's a chance you can claim back charges.

And wouldn't interest be more than 30x1%, as it would be compound and you'd be paying interest on interest each day? Or don't they work like that?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • wonga.com have been quite reasonable in all my dealings with them.

You get a quote, get some figures and you KNOW how much you borrow, you KNOW how long for, you KNOW what you will have to pay back and you KNOW when.

It's very simple. Don't take the money if you can't pay it back.

I asked for a couple of days extension after taking my new job and it was fine. I paid back what I had to (with extra interest) of course.

I don't know what they would do if I failed to pay them, or failed to let them know I wouldn't be able to.

Like my mum told me a long time ago... Creditors don't mind if you LET THEM KNOW if you can't pay etc. If they have to chase you, then they get aggressive - and there are lots of rules in their favour if you sign a credit agreement and then default on it. The ball is then in their court and you're at their mercy.

It's sad to hear of aggressive tactics being used on their part, extra and unjustified interest being added etc but remember this...

DON'T BORROW MONEY IF YOU CAN'T PAY IT BACK.

DON'T AGREE TO T&C JUST BECAUSE YOU NEED MONEY AT THE TIME.

REMEMBER YOU ARE BORROWING MONEY, SO THE LENDER CALLS THE SHOTS ONCE YOU SIGN THE AGREEMENT.

REMEMBER YOU HAVE A COMMITMENT TO RE-PAY THE MONEY YOU BORROW.

Sorry to sound harsh, but it's the truth. It's like gambling... don't gamble if you don't have money to lose.

    :-)

I've got an account with Wonga, not because I ever need to get money see me through to payday, I have it on standby if I'm travelling, because they pay in an hour its ideal emergency cash

I've done a few £50 loans and paid them back quick just to get the amount they will loan up.
  • Wonga are by far the worst short term loan company I have ever used. Everything is controlled by automated services and it's impossible to get hold of a human being in customer services if you need to. I called 3 times regarding an application and was on hold for over 30 min, I didn't speak to anyone and had to hung up because my phone credit run out each time. Costing me over £15
My last application was again referred which I
really don't understand why because I've taken and paid all their previous loans on time, this time I received the approval email almost 2 days after the initial application, much longer to the usually advertised turnaround time.
Not only I will never use Wonga again but I will never refer it to a friend either, in contrary I will tell my experience to anyone that ever mentions their name...absoluteley horrible for what they charge!

    There's your problem, right there!

You shouldn't be habitually using a Payday Loans, they should be an absolute last resort.

Seems they have been your lifeline for a long time but now they have failed you, they have all of a sudden become scumbags.
The very best thing a Payday loan company can do for you, is to reject your application.

Wonga's trading ethics can be a bit contradictory. All over their website they tell us what a responsible lending company they are and how Wonga should not be relied upon as a continual source of credit. I have used Wonga a couple of times this year and always paid them back ahead of the 'promise date'. It has now been over two months since i used the service and in that space of time, i've been flooded with emails from Wonga ("We'd love to see you again", "Come back to Wonga", "5 reasons to use Wonga", and so on) urging me to take further credit. They don't tell you about that 'approach' on the website.

I find it funny how many new members seem to join and big up these companies , they must employ people to make there loans look good when they see a negative comment about there loans

    Nor do Amazon.

I make a purchase on Amazon and I am flooded with daily offers of even more "stuff" they think I am interested in for months afterwards until it drops to a more routine weekly offer.
Amazon are trying to relieve me of a whole lot more money than Wonga ever could.

Spam emails - Deal with them like the rest of us, it is why the Delete Key was invented.
