You could sign up for podcasts if available of your fav shows which is an easy way.

Or is this not an option?

There's lots of free BBC stuff on iTunes:

Plug a tunder into a line in and record using audacity.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.
  • Offline Explorer can do this also if it's online somewhere

I've got a Pure 'Bug' digital radio which can record DAB radio on to SD cards. You can set it to make recordings using a timer or an EPG for some stations.
You could get the recordings on to your computer using a card reader or by connecting a USB cable to the radio to read the card from there. The sound files are in MP2 format. I don't know if these will play straight away on an iPod but you could convert them to a suitable format. Maybe iTunes would do that for you.
I'm not sure if they make this radio anymore. Morgan Computers have refurb ones available though.

It wouldn't be the cheapest way but it'd be very convenient especially for recoding stuff while you're out.

I got a FM dongle from PC World just after Christmas it cost me £2.50 and does exactly what you want. However I cant find it at the moment to give the brand\model but will have a look.
