Not quite, this device allows you to connect to an existing ADSL broadband connection wirelessly. However your laptop will still need a wireless adapter to use with this or any other wifi hotspots.mountaingirl wrote:... and it cant automatically connect to wireless internet. So if you want wireless at home you will need .....
If you have ADSL broadband - The Hercules noted in this post or similar ADSL modem\wireless router
or
If you have Cable broadband - A Cable\DSL wireless router or similar as mentioned here
In both cases above or if you want use a wireless hotspot then your laptop will need an adapter. These seem quite good value as mentioned by Premier in another thread .....
a wireless card to go in the PCMCIA slot
or
a USB adaptor to plug in a USB port.
Personally I'd go for the PCMCIA card as I'd keep knocking the USB one out when using the laptop on the sofa.

My laptop doesn't have built-in wireless, not really a problem though as I bought an adaptor for about fifteen quid. Look for PC-card 802.11b or g adapter, available just about anywhere that sells PC bits.
The box in this thread is what you would need if jhaving got the above you also wanted to have your mobile internet access at home as well as in Starbucks. That's recommended as well actually, I find it quite handy to be able to use my laptop anywhere around the house rather than have to perch next to the internet connection all the time.I ♥ MSE0 -

Depends on the address type.
The most common used on a LAN is a Class C subnet: 192.168.x.x
e.g. for 192.168.1.x
192.168.1.0 = Network address (not usable for a host)
192.168.1.1 = Normally this is the router / gateway by convention
192.168.1.255 = Broadcast address (not usable for a host)
Total of 253 usable for hosts.
If you switched to a Class B (172.16.x.x) or Class A (10.x.x.x) private address range you can have more hosts.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

How do you know this is a piece of inferior cheap junk? Good question though, excluding the IP issue, I've never seen listed on any SOHO routers, wireless or not, how many clients they can handle before they die?
