WSL: Asda instore Hercules 54g wi-fi ADSL router was £90 now £35

Probably the bigger stores only, Hercules who normally manufacture graphic cards are now doing wireless. This unit was and still is £89.99 but asda are selling them off for £34.99. Two left in Huyton Liverpool.

  • BTW for those interested I bought one and have just set it up, it was so easy, the easiest router I have ever set up and the difference between my hard wired netgear and this is very noticeable. The set up screen browser is very simple to understand aswell. Very happy with the hercules.

I am currently on ASDL broadband and have bought another computer which i would like to use on the net and have been told by broadband provider that i will need to upgrade to wireless costing an additional £4 per month. If i bought one of these would i still need to upgrade or would this device allow both computers access to the internet?

This router will allow more than 1 computer to use the same broadband connection (up to 256 computers i rekon). You have to remember, both computers will then require a wireless card each, or a wireless USB dongle - at extra cost.

How far apart are the computers - if say less than 10m, and if you are not worried about running a wire between them, i would opt for a 4 port 10/100 meg wired router. you can get these for £20 and there will be not extra costs involved as most computers (les than 4 yr old) will have a network connection built in.

  • Is this also a 4 port wired ethernet switch?

Important note though, the Belkin one is a cable wireless router, whereas this is an ADSL modem wireless router.

Good news for you - no word of this feature on the website link specification - BUT if you look at the high resolution photos available for download on the site there are indeed FOUR Ethernet ports labelled LAN1-2-3-4 on the unit so yes, the '4 connections' does refer to HARD-WIRED Ethernet devices, as well as any 802.11g wireless devices.

No as this is adsl not cable, the belkin one for £35 in pc world is ideal. This router is for broadband that use a phone line.

I have been using my hercules now for a number of hours and can report that it is still my best wireless router up to now and i have had a few. (i like buying gadgets)
