Letting Agencies in league with Utilities

My letting agency sent me a letter this morning proposing a transfer of all their properties' utilities to Southern Electricity. This is a move I was offered last year but rejected as I wasn't 100% confident of the savings and SE's door to door rep was unable to answer all my queries.
Has anyone else had a similar proposal? I am, by nature, cynical and suspicious and am wondering how the letting agency benefits - would they be receiving some sort of commission? Or am I just being paranoid?

Unless there is a clause in your tenancy agreement, as far as I know, the letting agents have no rights at all in the choice of energy supply. If you have a contract with the energy supplier, then it is your choice not the letting agents who supplies the utils. Normally all that a tenancy agreement says is that all the bills have to be cleared when you leave the property.

you are right to be wary, they will be geting a big kickback for every property that switches.

i was thinking about doing it for the ones I manage a couple of years ago, Virgin energy were promoting atthe time and they were prepared to give me a referral fee for every one that switched.

i t may be in your best interests to switch, but you can do this easily online and gt yourself £12.50 via one of the brokers, or upto £46 via quidco if you go with scottish Power.
