Fuming! Inview freeview panel

I've posted this on the dedicated post to this panel but could do with some advice so trying here - hope that's okay.

I joined the freeview panel in November 2007. I followed instructions, did everything as required until March 08, when I began having problems. I emailed the panel for advice, no reply, Tried ringing, no answer. I then emailed them asking them to give me a ring as there was no answer to my phone calls.
I've still heard nothing since then, so almost a year with no contact, until today when I've received an email asking for the freeview box back before they take further action.
I explained to them what had happened, and that I had done everything possible to stick to the terms and conditions, but had no help from them.
I think the freeview box may have actually been thrown away, it was faulty, and we've all got inbuilt freeview/sky now anyway. It may be in the loft, I need to double check.
I'm just fuming the way this woman is threatening me. I've had no contact with them at all for a year and now they are telling me I will have to pay for the box. I just presumed after a year of no contact that they had forgotton about me.
Any advice?
