new shower and tiles please help me!

Hi all! Hope someone has some thoughts....About a month ago my Mira Essentials power shower conked out. i had electricians come over and look but they seemed a bit clueless and wanted three hundred quid to replace it a with a redring one. I thought I'd shop around.
But shopping around is time-consuming. I can't take any time off either. anyway, got some other plumber/electricians out and after a delay of two weeks, they have finally got back to me. They can replace the shower with what they say is the current mira equivalent. They said it might be a bit smaller and this would impact on the look of the surrounding tiles. As it happens, I think it would be a good chance to change the tiles, just to smarten the bathroom up. The current ones are grotty and I am actually trying to sell over the next 6 months....
The plumber/electrician guy works with a tiler and he says he could come out and work in conjunction with each other next week (I could arrange for someone to be there) He says the tiler can go and get the tiles and all the necessary adhesive, grout etc. Excellent, no? i really don't have much time to spare at the moment but need to get this sorted.
Except I am shocked by the quote! all in, shower, tiles and labour + vat = 911 pounds! Aaaaagh! Any thoughts? the shower apparently costs235.75 with vat included, the tiles 67, "consumables' at 113, tiler at 280 (!?!?!?) and fitting of shower at 200 (?!??!?!)
Any help much appreciated!

  • Make time to shop around!! Or Do not complain about the cost-Buy a shower that is the same size to cover the tiles-Showers prices start from £70 with fitting from £100

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have spoken to six different plumbers at this stage so it's not that I don't agree with the idea of shopping around. Only three have been able to come out. The others told me on the phone that they were unable to help/busy.
I thought it would be best to find a similar shower to the one I have and this is what the plumbers have all said......that is why I thought the options you mention at seventy pounds would not be suitable. Maybe I've got this wrong. I have no gas at my property and it's currently set up for a power shower, there's a hot and cold pipe going into the unit.
Anyway, like I said, thanks for the reply anyway.
