Cavity Wall Insulation & An Air Vent

Hello does anyone on here know about cavitiy wall insulation?

We had this done a fortnight ago and in one particular room we have an open fire with a proper chimney. We do use the fire in winter and the chimney is ok. When we had the cavity wall insulation we were forced to have an air vent put in the wall even though I said we have a chimney that works. Now that particular room is twice as cold as it was before so how can we save money when we are going to have to put the heating on more or use the open fire more?.OH really isn't happy as that was a cold room anyway. The point of this post though is to ask do we need an air vent as well as a working chimney?

Thank you for reading.

    Hi,
It is all to do with ventilation. If the fire is over a certain power, you hav eto have additional ventilation.

Chimney is the way for air out of the room. It cannot work in both directions. If there is no another way for air to get into the room, chimney cannot work properly.
  • If everything was working ok, albeit colder than you liked, before the insulation was installed - block your air vent up. I used old tights which allows a little bit of circulation but brought the room temperature up significantly; before I did this I couldn't sit anywhere near the vent as there was a very cold draft.
