Like I said before Insurers treat every fire claim with suspician, they will be checking the reports that have and checking these against the policy wording.
This is not unusual and by the sounds of it I would not get worried.
What I would recommend is that you ring them again and ask them roughly when they will be making a decision. You can then chase them again if you have not heard anything a couple of days after that date.0 -
I wouldn't worry about the claim being with the "technical dept" is most likely that the claim is higher in value that first thought and has been reallocated to a more experienced member of staff. Once the adjuster has spoken to the police/fire service then it is likely that the claim will progress as a standard fire claim - it will take a little while for those enquiries to be completed so don't worry about the time being taken.0

The technical dept have told me that the outcome of the claim now depends on the results of an interview they hope to have with the tenant who set the fire to ascertain whether the fire was malicious or the result of other things (alchohol, mental state etc).
At least it is not dull!
Thanks to all for your help as well.0 -
As the previous posters have said it should not be a problem as either way it is a fire as long as you or your associates did not start it there should not be a problem0

<sigh> Waiting on the outcome of the trial on April 8th now. This is long and tedious.0

Have the Insurers not given you an answer yet?0

I really don't understand this. I'm not a property claims expert, but this is a fire claim regardless of the cause and should be covered, surely?
I suppose the only doubt could be if there is a suspicion of collusion.0 -
I agree with Geri, its a fire.
They have someone who has admitted starting the fire who is no doubt being taken to court for arson not malicious damage.
I'm surprised Zurich are being like this, if this is what is actually happening and the circumstances are as they have been posted it might be worth biting the bullet and either getting a solicitor onto the case or spending money on an Insurance Assessor.(I'm not keen on them, but in this type of case I bet they would get a result within a week or so).
Can you post more details please OP0 -
Might be worth seeking out an independent intermediary. I know of one in our area who claim to provide this service for free."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Out of interest, why do most people suggest avoiding builders/workmen recommended by the Inurance company. I thought this would save you the hassle of having to ring around and obtain quotes etc. I just think you might end up with a rogue trader if you search yourself.
Moreover i am aware the Insuance company give a definite guarantee on the work quality if you use their recommended builders0
