Bought a residential property in March 1986 which has been let although I was still responsible for the bills. In Sept 2005 I noticed I was been charged for 2 gas meters although there was always one there. Phoned BG & given the run around. In Sept 2006 following letters & calls they stopped billing me for the nonexistant meter but didn't get any refund for previous years. Have had so many problems with them which I was trying to sort out that although I was writing & phoning I wasn't pushing them on the refund assuming it was money in the bank.Phoned them today & they agreed I had been overcharged but because of the Statue of Limitations they could not go back beyond Jan 03- first I have heard of it. Loooked it up and basicly I cannot claim back beyond 6 years. Does it matter that I was unaware of the problem until Sept 2005 when it was first raised with them, a bookkeeper did my books & paid the bills (too trusting I know). It appears that I had one meter number but two locations so when the meter was read they put it down to either one of the two allocated account numbers in theory paying twice for the gas. Have I any way of getting my money back It must be thousands

    (a) you had a book keeper for 20 years and you didn't know what you were paying bills for?

    (b) why have you waited a further 3.5 years since discovering the issue to request a refund ?

    (c) could you scan in two of the bills you say that you had back in the 80's for the same address & time? ;)
