Has anybody used tesco clubcard deals to book ferry?

Just curious about whether anybody has done this as it seems like a good way to save money.
For me it costs about £240 to do a return trip to Ireland. For this I'd need about £60 worth of clubcard vouchers (as you get 4 times as many deal tokens so 4 * 60 =240).
Obviously collecting £60 worth of vouchers is difficult but you can buy £60 worth of vouchers on Ebay for about £120 and get the seller to convert to £240 worth of the appropriate deal tokens.
Thereby I save £120.
Is there a flaw in my plan?

  • Used mine for stena line twice as we go to dublin for christmas. The earlier you book the better as the price does go up. The last time we went I called to book and the woman on the phone told me not to bother paying for my daughter who is 4. It's free for 3 and unders but she said no one looks that closely and not to bother paying for her until she's at least 5. Before I used tesco vouchers I paid cash but usually managed to find at least a 15% discount by scouring the internet and I think I got cash back from Quido so if you are planning on buying the vouchers have a look at the cheapest price you can get. Sign up for the stena line newsletter and they do have promotions on regularly.
  • Yes, I think I used the same 15% off voucher at Xmas myself.
    I appreciate my example is a little bit misleading as there is usually some voucher/discount you can get online and the base fare is also a few quid cheaper.

    It all depends where you want to go. We go to the continent quite often, and no Dover/Calais ferries take the vouchers as far as I'm aware. However, the chanel tunnel does.:j . and with them you can get 4x their face value. i.e Our motorhome on chanel tunnel costs £131 return. We submitted £32 worth of Tesco vouchers + £3 and our 7m., 3.850ton motor home, plus myself and hubby get a return ticket. Bargain !!!!:beer:

    I'm not sure but I think if you buy deal tokens in this way they will have someone else's name on them and that person should be travelling with you.

  • We have paid for our Belfast\Stranrear ferry in full every year with Tesco vouchers and haven't had any problems. Booked again this year for July price was £290 for car and five passengers + a £10 fee for using the vouchers so £300 fare for £75.00 in vouchers, booked and paid for.:beer:
    You do have to send the vouchers in by special delivery and I think my name was printed on them.
