Wiping out credit card balances?

Apologies if I post this in the wrong place. If so please move accordingly.
The other day we had a guy come into our work talking about wiping out credit card balances.
He was actually trying to get us to set up an agency offering the service - don't worry, we declined, no interest whatsoever, so I'm not spamming for business.
It got me thinking though, is anyone offering to help people for free?
I know CCCS and others do wonderful work for free, but this is a different area and one that has very quickly got people like the guy who saw us setting up and charging to help and no doubt making a lot of money from it.
With my work, I do get involved with people in financial difficulty, and was wondering if there is somewhere they can go to for free help.
