Someone has my ebay details

My daughter has a msn hotmail account which was hacked into last night. In her messages is a password retrieve email giving details of my ebay password. This is an account that is not linked up to a paypal account. It was just set up for paying by cheque or postal order. I don't know the password for this ebay account only the user id. I have tried to get in touch with them but the live chat advice line is only open from 2-6pm. Any advice as I'm really worried. Thanks.

Personally I would change my password and secret question just in case anyone tries to hi-jack the account and then you are on the safe side

You can only change the password if you can login and the password is not known

Contact eBay via their help area and make it an Urgent request. Make sure you select one of the options for an account has been accessed without your permission and hopefully they will respond very quickly.

Also get your daughter to change her MSN Hotmail account password and secret question to something more secret and make sure she doesn't give it out to anyone then whoever accessed the hotmail account won't be able to get in and see what eBay are doing about it.

Have you tried the "Forgotten Password" feature on eBay, although this may not work if whoever has accessed your account changed the email address to their address.

So you can't access the Hotmail or eBay accounts?

OK, you need to contact eBay and make it an urgent request. Explain the situation and they will hopefully get back to you quickly with an answer or something you need to do to reset your account.

Also download Spybot and Ad-Aware and check your PC for spyware.

Yes Tigermatt, I can't access either, I have e-mailed them, will it take ages for them to get back to me ? Thanks for your advise, you hear about these things and stupidly never think they will happen to you.

When you get a response make sure you reset your secret question and answer and make it more secure - don't use our mother's maiden name or something that anyone could find it if they wanted to. Not sure if eBay lets you input your own secret question or if you have to pick one as some sites let you type in your own.
