Vine weevils
Has anyone else got vine weevils yet?
I thought it was too early for the little !!!!!!s!!
Was sorting out the greenhouse yesterday and the grubs where in the soil, only in one patch, but a lot of them.
Got nematodes last year but it was expensive to treat everything. Has anyone tried steaming with any success?

Are the grubs too many to get rid of by picking them out of the soil? I loathe this insect, there is something primeval about it. We don't get many any more since I started using Privado. It needs to be watered into the soil after diluting accoding to the instructions. It's not cheap but will be a lot cheaper than nematodes. They eat the roots of plants and seem to like fuchias in particular.0

the grubs will be overwintering there and will come out later as adults to breed:eek:
I go thru the compost in my pots and squish any that i find - yukJust call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

We had this trouble a couple of years back in some large pots the little blighter's killed one of my carnations which I still been unable to replace as it seems know one has this variety in my area. I got some stuff you mix in a watering can and water in very well and it killed them, I cant recall name now but I will check later to see if I still have some left so I can tell you0

I treat with the nematodes in the autumn as that's when the larvae are hatching. As long as you make sure the compost does not dry out they should do the trick. Whilst initially more expensive the saving on chemicals and time is considerable, not to mention the reduction in chemical residues.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

No is the quick answer
I use Provado and it specifically says not for food crops, my guess would be that it is systemic and in the fibres of the plant, so would do you no good at allNumerus non sum0 -
This is what we got a few years back

That's strange. Pure neem oil is eco-friendly and used in organic gardening.
